I’VE BEEN FEEDING DOGSWELL TREATS TO MY DOG. WHAT’S NEW AND WHAT HAS CHANGED?
Rest assured that Dogswell still offers the same high-protein, real chicken breast and duck jerky, soft strips and grillers that your dog loves. We’ve made Dogswell even better by adding more functional benefits, more protein choices and more formats.
With more functional benefits and added ingredients like turmeric, New Zealand green-lipped mussel, zinc, and biotin, Dogswell treats are now better than ever and will help your pets do more of what they love for longer.
HOW MANY FORMATS ARE IN THE DOGSWELL LINE?
There are five delicious types and textures of Dogswell treats. You’ll easily find one that your dog enjoys.
DOGSWELL JERKY is made from quality cuts of meat and poultry, formed into chewy, savory treats. They are made with broth for a texture that dogs love.
NEW DOGSWELL MINI JERKY offers the same meaty taste in a size made specifically for smaller dogs.
NEW DOGSWELL BISCUITS are meat-first, crunchy and oven-baked in small batches. They are easy to break into smaller pieces for smaller dogs.
DOGSWELL GRILLERS are an all-natural, slow-cooked meaty treat with a smoky flavor and smell that even picky dogs love.
DOGSWELL SOFT STRIPS all-meat jerkies are softer and easy-to-tear for older or sensitive dogs.
DOGSWELL TENDERS are pure chicken breast in a natural shape.
WHAT FUNCTIONAL BENEFITS DO DOGSWELL TREATS OFFER?
DOGSWELL HIP & JOINT treats contain glucosamine, chondroitin and New Zealand green-lipped mussel to support healthy hips and joints.
DOGSWELL IMMUNITY & DEFENSE (formerly Vitality) treats are supplemented with antioxidant vitamins A and E for vitality and a healthy immune system, flaxseed oil with essential fatty acids and turmeric.
DOGSWELL SKIN & COAT treats are supplemented with zinc, biotin, flaxseed oil and vitamin E to support soft skin and a shiny coat.
HOW MANY FLAVORS ARE THERE IN THE DOGSWELL LINE?
There are six real meat or poultry proteins that appeal to all dogs. In addition to chicken and duck, Dogswell treats are now available in turkey, beef, salmon and lamb for added nutritional benefits and taste.
WHERE ARE DOGSWELL TREATS MADE?
Dogswell meaty treats are made in our own SQF3 certified manufacturing plant in Missouri.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE SQF3 CERTIFIED?
SQF Level 3 certification requires the implementation of a comprehensive safety & quality management system that incorporates a certified HACCP* food safety plan. The SQF Level 3 certification is administered by the Safe Quality Food Institute, a division of the Food Marketing Institute, and is recognized as a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmark.
*HACCP is a management system in which food safety is addressed through the analysis and control of biological, chemical and physical hazards from raw material production, procurement and handling to manufacturing, distribution and consumption of the finished products.
WHAT IS VEGETABLE GLYCERIN AND WHY IS IT USED?
Vegetable glycerin is a natural, clear liquid produced from plant oils. It is used as a humectant and helps to maintain hydration in jerky and other meaty treats. Without a humectant, jerky will become dry and brittle and could be painful for your dog to eat.
Jerky or meaty treat products from other brands may contain cane molasses as a humectant, which adds unnecessary sugar.
DOES THE MEAT OR POULTRY IN DOGSWELL TREATS CONTAIN ANTIBIOTICS?
No.
DOES THE MEAT OR POULTRY IN DOGSWELL TREATS CONTAIN HORMONES?
No. US federal regulation prohibits the use of hormones in poultry.
WHAT TYPE OF MEAT OR POULTRY IS USED IN DOGSWELL TREATS?
The chicken jerky is made from real chicken breast. Other chicken treats contain both dark and white meat.
The duck treats contain both dark and white meat.
DO DOGSWELL TREATS CONTAIN ANYTHING ARTIFICIAL?
No.
WHICH DOGSWELL TREATS ARE GRAIN-FREE?
All Dogswell treats are grain-free and contain no added gluten.
WHAT IS THE SMALL PACKET IN MY TREAT BAG? WHAT DOES IT DO?
These small packets, sometimes referred to as deoxidizers or oxygen scavengers, reduce moisture and absorb oxygen to help keep the product fresh.
MY DOG SWALLOWED THE PACKET FOUND IN MY TREAT BAG. WHAT DOES IT CONTAIN?
The deoxidizer contains iron (ferrous iron 62), active carbon, salt and water. Though we have not observed any issues with dogs who have ingested these packets, we recommend you contact your veterinarian.
WHAT IS THE “BEST BY” DATE, WHERE IS IT LOCATED AND HOW DO I READ IT?
The “Best By” date is printed on the back of every Dogswell bag and indicates when the product was made.
An example is “Best By 06 11 19,” where:
06 is the month.
11 is the day.
19 is the year.
This date is the last date that we recommend you feed the bag of Dogswell treats to your dog.
HOW LONG DO DOGSWELL TREATS REMAIN FRESH?
If properly stored, Dogswell treats should remain fresh 15 months from the time they are produced.
WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY TO STORE DOGSWELL TREATS?
Once the bag has been opened, we recommend using the treats within 3 months and only if the bag is properly sealed and stored each time after opening. Product freshness can vary based on climate and storage.
The optimal storage location is moisture-free and between 40°F and 85°F. Keeping the bag tightly sealed will help retain product freshness.
Depending on your local climate, treats can also be kept in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator. This may cause treats to dry out and become more brittle.
WHERE DO I FIND FEEDING GUIDELINES FOR DOGSWELL FUNCTIONAL TREATS?
Feeding guidelines are on this website and can be found by clicking on the link marked “feeding guidelines” on each individual product page. They are also on the back of every bag.
